Worth the Read…

Now that our Memorial Day campaign has wrapped up, we wanted to bring your attention to an item that may have gotten lost in all the focus of the past seven days.  Afterall, Memorial Day is a day set aside to honor the men and women who serve in our military, but simply that one day observance does not give them a job when they discharge. 

Recently, Senator Kristen Gillibrand, who put forth the “Veterans Employment Act of 2010,” which takes a broad approach to addressing the unemployment rates of our veterans by establishing a Veteran Business Center Program within the Small Business Administration (SBA), creating a program to evaluate ways transitioning service members can build skills learned from their service, and examines the expansion of the National Guard Employment Enhancement Project (NGEEP), wrote an op-ed for the Huffington Post, which examines her legislation and need to help veterans with the unemployment issue.  It’s well worth the read…
