Vets Affairs Highlighted in State of the Union
Written by Ronne Froman on January 28, 2010 – 9:00 am -In case you missed it, President Obama voiced his commitment to veterans in last night’s State of the Union Address, when he announced the largest funding increase to veterans’ affairs in over a decade. “All of our men and women in uniform… have our respect, our gratitude, our full support. And just as they must have the resources they need in war, we all have a responsibility to support them when they come home,” he said.
The President’s pledge arrives on the heels of the unveiling of the Administration’s “Feds Hire Vets,” a new website for the Administration’s veterans hiring initiative, which launched on January 21. The site offers information and tips for veterans on navigating the federal hiring process and how to ensure they take full advantage of the special authorities that apply to them. The site also includes sections geared towards hiring managers and federal agencies looking to employ veterans.
The fight to ensure employment opportunities for America’s vets will not be won overnight, but steps like these will certainly help us get there.
