Written by admin on October 19, 2011 – 5:48 pm -Stars and Stripes reports that the American Logistics Association, a coalition of packaged food companies, is stepping up to answer the call to support our veterans and help them find employment. The coalition has promised to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses over the next two years.
The coalition includes over 270 packaged good manufactures, including Coca-Cola and Tyson Foods. Call of Duty Endowment’s Response to the Olympian: We hear you!
Written by admin on August 15, 2011 – 4:27 pm -Today (8/15), the Washington Newspaper the Olympian published a great Op-Ed, “Public and private sectors must help those leaving military.” Click the link to read the full text, but the theme is evident from the title. Bravo to the folks at the Olympian for addressing the issue of Veterans unemployment! We couldn’t agree more on the pressing nature of this issue and the absolute necessity for cooperation between both the public and private sectors.
As noted in the piece, President Obama’s address last week and the public initiatives he announced are a great start to the process of helping our returning veterans. The Olympian piece also mentions the work being done in the private sector. Along those lines, also in today’s news is a new website, “NowHiringVeterans.com.” Created by a Virginia Beach based company called Intellect-Techs, the website allows veteran job seekers to post resumes and companies specifically seeking vets and wounded warriors to post job openings. The venture provides a great forum for employers and veterans looking for work to connect.
The Olympian also mentions Microsoft’s commitment to the cause. Microsoft is a leader on this issue. In fact, they recently donated $250,000 in cash and software to help our organization find jobs for our vets. The US Chamber of Commerce is another leading advocate for veterans in the private sector, sponsoring “Hiring our Heroes” Job Fairs all across the country.
Another group working tirelessly to help veterans is the non-profit sector. At the Call of Duty Endowment we work with organizations all across the country to help veterans find jobs. Organizations like Veterans Green Jobs, Military to Medicine, Hire Heroes USA, Helmets to Hardhats and many more. Click here for a detailed list of groups working to help veterans.
Non-profit groups working directly with veterans in the communities where they live are critical to getting vets transitioned to civilian lives. These organizations need support from the public and from private industry.
That is why Activision Blizzard launched the Call of Duty Endowment in October 2009, with a commitment to donate and raise millions of dollars for the cause. Led by CEO Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard realized the importance of the private sector and endowed CODE with the mission to create a national campaign that will assist those organizations that provide our former service members with job placement, training and educational services in their post military careers.
A big part of what we do is try to raise awareness, and every new website and op-ed or feature story from folks like the Olympian helps to raise public awareness of this issue. So we just wanted to say thanks, and keep up the great reporting.

In the Wake of Obama’s Call for Increased Veteran Support and Recent Donation to the Call of Duty Endowment, Microsoft® Gives Again in Support of Veteran Employment
Written by admin on August 9, 2011 – 10:28 am -This past Friday President Obama addressed the nation’s overwhelmingly high veteran unemployment rates with some new initiatives aimed at helping veterans find work through both the private and public sectors. From this address, Bloomberg reports that “President Barack Obama said with the U.S. debt limit extended through 2012 the priority for his administration and Congress should be spurring economic growth and job creation.” To do this, Obama’s initiatives include using tax credits and implementing “a reverse boot camp.”
Microsoft® has been continually committed to serving our veterans, as seen not only by their recent $250,000 software contribution to the Call of Duty Endowment, but also by their most recent announcement that “through their ‘elevate American veterans’ program they are donating $2 million in cash and another $6 million in software and training curriculum (computers are not included) to support those that served our country to get the training they need to get into the technology workforce once their tours are over.”
Preempting Obama’s speech Friday, the Endowment posted a blog last week highlighting the critical need for unified support from the government, organizations and companies. It is important that these three sectors work together in providing veterans the training and education needed to become a competitive force in the job market.
In conjunction with Microsoft’s® corporate commitments and lawmakers continued legislative efforts, such as Governor Perry’s promotion of earning college credits for military experience, the Call of Duty Endowment is proud to see others joining our fight in what Admiral Mike Mullen stated as “The best way to honor a veteran is to hire one.”

Bobby Kotick Reflects on the Endowment’s Inception and Continued Support of Veterans
Written by admin on July 21, 2011 – 10:09 am -This past Friday, during an interview with Military.com, Bobby Kotick talked of the Call of Duty Endowment, the inspiration behind its creation, and its continued dedication to finding suitable employment for our veterans.
Kotick recalls the moment of the organization’s inception when he describes a conversation between himself and the then-VA secretary Jim Nicholson: Kotick remembers expressing his excitement about a performing arts facility being built in Los Angeles that would offer veterans special benefits. Nicholson counters by explaining that although this is a great project, our nation’s philanthropic focus should be on finding veterans work, as their unemployment statistics are staggering. Thus, the purpose behind our organization was born.
Kotick goes on to explain how the Call of Duty video game became such an integral part of this plan. “I particularly thought I could do something with Call of Duty since the game in many respects is something we use to honor many of our veterans, and we felt this would be a good way to tie what we do with the game with finding optimum employment opportunities for veterans.”
Since our inception, we have been working to bring awareness to and support companies and organizations that are helping our veterans find gainful employment. For example, the Endowment was most recently honored with a donation from Microsoft, which was then given to many of our partnering organizations such as Veterans Green Jobs and Hire Heroes USA.
Kotick concludes the interview by emphasizing the Endowment’s effective and continued efforts: “We’re focused on building awareness, and we’re starting to see examples like the Robin Hood Foundation in New York or Jamie Dimon over at JP Morgan making efforts to hire more veterans – we want to raise awareness of how capable our returning veterans are, and how much we’re obligated as employers to recognize the sacrifices these people have made, and invest in finding them opportunities.”

The Call of Duty Endowment Receives $250,000 Donation from Microsoft® to Help Veterans Find Work
Written by admin on June 30, 2011 – 2:46 pm -The Call of Duty Endowment proudly announces that, today, in conjunction with its Los Angeles store opening, Microsoft® is donating $250,000 to the Endowment and its founder, Bobby Kotick. As is the Endowment’s mission, this donation was given to help our veterans successfully transition back into civilian life by obtaining respectable employment upon their return home.
The $250,000 donation comes in the form of a monetary contribution and a software contribution, to be given by the Endowment to organizations who have proven their dedication to the pursuit of helping veterans find employment and/or valuable training to meet these goals. Some of the organizations include AMVETS, National Veterans Transition Services, Inc., Still Serving Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Hire Heroes USA, and Veterans Green Jobs.
Bobby Kotick responded to this generous donation, saying, “As business leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure that every veteran who leaves the military is honored with a good paying job in the 21st Century. I hope that more companies will step forward to help us in this fight, just as Microsoft® has done today.”
Although many organizations have stepped up to help overcome jobless rates for veterans, we hope that more organizations are able to do their part and truly make a difference in the lives of thousands of our veterans.

Hats off to Microsoft for joining the fight…
Written by admin on May 5, 2010 – 5:29 pm -There was more good news this week in the long-term effort to support veterans who are looking for employment: a new initiative launched by Microsoft that will provide veterans and their spouses with technological skills important in today’s marketplace. The effort was announced Wednesday, and will provide a grant process to “award cash, software and IT skills training curriculum to eligible veterans service organizations, work-force agencies, as well as other nonprofit organizations”. Microsoft has agreed to provide funding of $2 million in cash, and $6 million in software and technology.
In short, this effort is another step forward in providing critical resources for our service men and women struggling to find a job. And furthermore, the technology industry is particularly promising for our veterans because of the technical expertise they have gained from their service.
