New Initiative Aims at Providing Veterans College Credit for Military Experience
Written by Call of Duty Endowment on July 22, 2011 – 3:48 pm -This past week Governor Rick Perry introduced the College Credit for Heroes program, which is a $3 million initiative managed by the Texas Workforce Commission. Under this program, veterans will be eligible to receive college credit for the training that they received while in the military.
Most veterans receive extensive and specialized training or education for their specific duties, and the development of these skills should not go unrecognized or appreciated. As such, the College Credit for Heroes initiative not only highlights the true value in military training or experience, but it also opens up doors for veterans seeking gainful employment.
In a recent blog post, the Endowment referenced a Los Angeles Times article which discussed one of the major problems hindering veteran employment –they do not have the college degrees that most companies or businesses are seeking. Now, with this new initiative, veterans can be, more than ever, a strong competitor in this difficult job market.
Providing veterans with every opportunity for success, while highlighting their valuable skills and assets has undoubtedly been the Call of Duty Endowment’s mission since its inception and it is great to see other advancements in the cause.
